Friends today I am wanting to discuss something particularly important with you all. Many of my sales friends are asking this question to me. As a business coach I am getting such questions regularly.
Friends, a salesperson called me and mentioned his problems. He said that nowadays whenever he calls customers, for the purpose of inquiring about their health, they do not pick up our phone and some customers even say that don’t ask about any previous due installments and not to disturb them.
So, I asked him if he had called him for business or payment, so he said that he did not even mention business. He only called him to ask about the current situation, but he got upset with him.
So, friends this is a thoughtful situation. Those salespeople who are experiencing such situations need to do some introspection. This comment or such behavior from the prospect or from the customer shows what kind of personal relationship the salesperson has with the customer. And it simply means that today if they do not pick up your call, then your relationship is very weak.
So what should you do in such a situation? As a business coach let me advise you to use the three-step approach.
- Send them a WhatsApp message: When you want to call your customers, before calling them you send them a WhatsApp message in which you must write “Dear Customer, during the lockdown I hope you are taking care of yourself and your family”. May God take care of your health and your family’s health, Yours Ramesh Kumar”.
- Initiate and focus on personal interaction: When your customers read your WhatsApp message, they may reply or may not reply. In both cases you can call them. This time it is possible that they will pick up your call. If they pick up your call then you say to them, “Hello Shyam ji, we always talk about business but I thought that today we will not discuss business and that’s why I am personally making this call to ask you about your well-being.
While making this call make sure that you do not discuss any business with them. This call should only be a personal relationship call and notice how much they talk to you. It is also possible that they will talk about business on their own, but you should keep this conversation limited to a personal discussion.
- Wait for his call: And it is also possible they may not pick up your phone. So, in such a situation, you should not be disheartened, just leave a message saying that “Mr. Shyam I want to talk to you at a personal level and just to discuss the current Corona Situation in your area due Corona lockdown. Note that it is important that we keep encouraging each other by being in touch with each other. When you have time, please call back. I will be happy to talk to you”.
As a Sale Trainer my experience says that quite likely you receive a call back from this person. People want to reciprocate courtesy. so, ensure that you keep contacting your customers and prospects again and again. This is the best time to get in touch and change the business relationship into personal relations.
