The fact is that you can’t hit a target if you can’t see it. Therefore, in any field you need to have clear targets and a definite action plan to achieve them.
So let’s get going, but before that I recommend that you bring a pen and notepad and make notes of how you will practice the following tips and tricks for your growth.
All the successful salespeople set their goals. They at least set their yearly goals and then they divide these goals into half year, quarters, months, weeks, days and even hours. They know exactly what they are going to do to achieve these goals. Here I am going to give you immensely powerful process of setting and achieving the business goals.
1. Decide what you what you want to achieve: The first step in goal setting is to analyze, how much revenue you have been generating during last 3 years? How much growth you have been getting year after year? Based on your average growth you can set the target for growth for the next year. Let it be the is stretched goal. If you have been growing by average 15{2facf265810d5c64deca339a00197305ceb917dadef902f2426694cb75f36e2b} during past 3 years, then you can set a target of, 25{2facf265810d5c64deca339a00197305ceb917dadef902f2426694cb75f36e2b} for the next year. While setting your target you can also look at the business opportunity and also your personal ambition for growth. Depending upon these two aspects you can change this growth target upward or downward, as you feel appropriate. Then you can break this target into quarters and months and weeks many days.
2. Decide your strategy and plan of action: The second step in this process is to analyze what you have been doing to achieve your sales in past. This is especially important step to know what works for you in selling and what does not. You must also think of the available market opportunities and accordingly create your strategy for the growth. You need to find out the answers to the questions like how will you increase the number of prospects for your business, how to improve your conversion ratio? How will you negotiate better and close orders faster? You need to create your strategy like who is your best customer and how will you approach him. How will you continue to build and maintain the customer relationship? How much will you generate from the existing customers and how much will you get from new customers? On the basis of answers to all these questions you must create a strategic document and working action plan. You need to make sure that you create a detailed document with responsibility and timelines
3. Put your Strategic plan into action: This is the most important step of the process. And lots of salespeople fail because they are not able to put their plan into action. Any strategy is as good as it is implemented. If you do not implement your strategy, then you are only daydreaming. And you will not be able to achieve your goals by daydreaming. Putting your strategy into action you must analyze your daily activities from morning till evening. You must analyze how do you spend your time and plan your day as per your strategic action plan. Make the best use of your time. It has been found that salespeople on an average work 90 minutes a day on the sales activity. When we say a sales activity it basically means prospecting, presenting, follow up and order closing. The time spent on these activities by every salesperson is not more than 90 minutes a day. I have found during my consulting experience that sometimes this time is even less than 90 minutes. I have also met the business owners who claim to be the chief salesperson but do not spend enough time on sales activity for many days in a row. Therefore, it is recommended you as master salesperson monitor your daily activities very minutely and complete your action plan. You will be achieving all of your goals!
4. Review, Learn and Modify: This is particularly an important step in the process of goal achievement. You must review your sales activities daily, weekly, and monthly. During the review you must find out whether you are a daring to be in action as planned. If not, ask yourself whether the strategy you decided is giving you the results or not. You need to strengthen the implementation of your strategy and also learn new strategies and modify if the planned actions are not giving the expected results. Review, learning insights and modification of the action plan is the continuous process until the results are achieved.
5. Celebrate and set new goals: once you have achieved your goals, you must get time to celebrate. Celebrating and rewarding yourself is most important aspect of goal achievement. By celebrating you tell are your subconscious mind that you are a winner, and you are a goal achiever. After some time, you will develop your image of being a goal achiever. Over a period, goal achievement becomes your habit, and you start moving on the growth path.
Success is not the right of only a few people. The path of success has been travelled by many people in past. You can simply follow the above five step formula and keep achieving new milestones of growth and success in life.
